The next morning, Lucy woke up to the smell of bacon and smoke! She ran downstairs and into the kitchen to see her mother sleeping at the table and what was supposed to be breakfast, burning to a crisp with gray smoke slowly reaching the ceiling.
"Burned breakfast again, Miriam..." she muttered under her breath as she removed the pan from the stove and dumped it in the sink.
Lucy left her mom to sleep and went upstairs to get ready. Half an hour later, Lucy got her lunch ready and headed out the door for the bus.
It was 7:50 when it showed up, and as always, Lucy stepped up and looked around. Except today was especially different. As she was walking down the aisle, Kieth Wakeman was sitting in the first seat next to the door. She stared in amazement. After a good 30 seconds, he looked up. She broke her stare and he flashed her a smile while she walked away.
She took a seat next to Micheal who was too busy studying to notice the raven haired girl sit down.
"Since when did KIETH WAKEMAN ride the bus?" she questioned, craning her head to sneak a glance at the back of his head.
"Since his mom got a job."
"His mom got a job? Jeez, what happened?" She turned to Micheal with an incredulous look.
"I have no idea, and in addition to that, I really couldn't care less. Now shut up, I need to study for that History test today." He buried his head into the book and read intensely.
"What History test?"
"The one we have today!" he exclaimed.
"Micheal, we took that test yesterday."
He looked up and hit his head with the book and gave Lucy his full attention.
"What do you want to talk about?"
"I really have no idea, but...seeing the most popular guy in school ride the bus is going to take some getting used to."
And with that, the bus pulled up to Thompson High School.

Okay so this is more of a filler chapter. But you can see what kind of conditions Lucy lives in, who Micheal is, who Kieth is and most importantly the down fall of popularity. Not many 80's references in here but in the next chapter there will be.
